Smitha Srinivasan | | Hi,
I work with a Software Products and Services company. We have just gotten into the Products market and have built up a sales force for this purpose.
We were looking at a Sales Force Automation Software and came across one called ACT (www.act.com).
I wanted to know if anyone is using the software and if there are any functions that you feel it does not fulfill.
Thanks

Tom "Bald Dog" Varjan | | Smitha,
I think Act is great, but it still limits your people to working on one specific computer.
With several clients we use Sugar CRM which is a server-based system and is freely availably from sourceforge.net
It works nicely.
Cheers

Scott Palmer | | Act! is a good product, but stay away from v2005. We had nothing but problems. If you go to Act!'s on user group, you will get more than an ear full of negative comments about this latest version. Version 2005 was built on the .NET framework, but they had numerous flaws in the first release most dealing with speed (there wasn't any). We actually returned it & got a refund. We reverted to the previous version and all is well again. Act! is working to resolve these issues, but could be several months away.
There are several online CRM services. One of the best known is Salesforce.com. These are usually more expensive, because you pay a monthly fee & never actually own the software. But you also don't have to be responsible for the upkeep. Other companies I have heard of include: Siebel.com, crmondemand.com, sforce.com & saleslogix.com.
I hope that this helps.

Steve Macke | | ACT has been around for a good while - it can be a useful tool - but it can also be a program that makes the salesforce a slave to a process and can stiffle some creative activities.
Depending on what type of sales force you are running will depend on how effective it is.
Hopefully you are not looking at micro manageing your sales force - as that in itself will be non-productive.

Ayan Bagchi | | Hi,
I have used the ACT software in our company and we never were very happy using it. It has lots of hidden factors, like the database size. There is a cap on the database size and functionability suffers. The other thing is about data syncing, which definitely does not work as planned and there is a lot of data loss.
I think the software needs a lot of changes and hence use it after it after the upgardes.
Regards
Ayan

I have used ACT, custom developed systems and others and the one I like the best is Salesforce.com.
Good luck! Gates Ouimette =====================================
