I did the some keyword searches on google to look for financial planning blogs and I found very little, sooooo I think I might be on to something.
My question is how are blogs factored into search engines rankings? For instance, I did a google search for the keywords "online business networking," which is still a relatively new emerging industry and I found all sorts of stuff and sites. But I notice that blogs weren't listed anywhere within the top 20. Only if I included the keyword, "blog" with the other 3 keywords would several sites, including webblogs, come up including Scott Allen obviously. Based on this basic research, is it safe to say that trying to start a financial planning blog and to be found among search engines can be a major task? What is it about blogs that limits their visibility on general search queries? I have a host of other questions about blogs and the marketing of it, but I wanted to start off with a couple questions and see what people can come up with.
I think that this will be an interesting discussion.

This is just my personal opinion - having spent nearly 16 years in investment banking (which preceeds the establishment of the Intenet as a marketing tool for entrepreneurs). Although I personally plan to have a blog up-and-going soon, I do not think it will be some kind of "magic bullet" for my or any business. It is simply one little gear in a series of gears(tools) that helps to make one's presence on the Net a little more noticeable. I think a blog is a worthwhile link to have both on your business website and your Ryze page. It should give people more insight into your world. For many people, a personal touch is important. It just occured to me that a blog is a tool empowering private citizens to turn themselves into public figures of a sort - because for most people a blog functions like a special invitation. It is in essence inviting people into your "inner cicle." Whether that is a good thing, a bad thing or of no consequence will depend upon on how you present yourself and how well your presentation is received.
If I were you, I would definitely have a blog that tells your audience what they need to know about you. But, I would reinforce that blog with other tools on your website - such as a slide show, a link to a web conference room for a one-on-one consultation and a viral marketing tool or an online newsletter that is double-opt-in.
Good luck.
